Are Your Stumbled Pages Sticky?

30 July, 2008 (13:49) | Plurk, Social Media, Stumble Upon

My favorite thing about StumbleUpon traffic is that for the most part it is directed traffic. When you register on SU, you select topics that you’re interested in. If you click the stumble button and visit a new site, you are taken to a site that fits one of the topics you’ve chosen.

All Thumbs are Not Created Equal

1 December, 2007 (21:01) | Beginner, Help, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, Thumbs, Top Stumbler

Sometimes giving a page a thumb up seems to make a big difference. The page you discover and thumb up suddenly makes it to the Buzz and it seems like everyone is looking at it now. Another page that seems just as likely to be popular doesn’t do anything after you thumb it up. What’s going on?

Tag…You’re It!

7 November, 2007 (00:34) | Favorites, Friends, Just for fun, Ken Bramhall, Pseudonym, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments, Stumbling, Wayne Watts

I’ve been tagged to answer 5 easy (?), short questions…and then I get to tag 5 people to answer them. It’s the blogging version of all those “About Me” e-mails that I used to get at least 3 or 4 times a year. The nice thing about the blogging version is that it’s kind of fun to see all the links going backwards and forwards.

Siskel and Ebert had it right…or Its all in the thumbs

6 November, 2007 (12:10) | Beginner, SU, Stumble Upon, Stumbling, Thumbs, Toolbar

If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Back when I was in college, I used to enjoy watching Siskel and Ebert. It wasn’t that I agreed with their recommendations, in fact, more often than not, I didn’t agree. But I did enjoy seeing the two (often [...]

Why does your age show 107?

29 October, 2007 (09:00) | Beginner, Email, Profile, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments

I just had a stranger message me on Skype. Usually, I’ll talk to strangers who send me IMs. I’ve met some interesting people that way. This time, they were messaging to ask me a question. “Why does your age show 107?”

I answered honestly. “Because showing too much information makes it too easy to find out too much information about people.”

StumbleUpon Sponsorship

27 October, 2007 (08:01) | SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon Comments, Stumbling

If you’ve used and enjoyed SU for a while, you might be thinking of purchasing a sponsorship. After all, you want to see all the extra-special websites only sponsors get to see, you want to be part of the secret societies only sponsors get to participate in, you want to help the starving developers because [...]

The Adsense Dilemma

26 October, 2007 (18:11) | Advertising, Firefox, Research, Revenue blogging, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments

I’ve been using Adblock for so long that I don’t even think about it anymore. In fact, the only reason I’m talking about it now is that I’ve been studying the various types of web ads for a project I’m working on. So, I started talking to some friends who use Adsense and various other types of insta-ads on their sites.

While I was talking to them, I discovered something. Several were getting StumbleUpon traffic, but very little of the traffic was turning into sales. It wasn’t until one friend asked me to look at his site and tell me what I thought, that I started to realize what the problem was. I couldn’t see an ad on the whole site. Not one. Checking back over the other sites, I noticed the same “problem.” No ads.

So What Should I Post On My StumbleUpon Blog?

20 October, 2007 (11:01) | Beginner, Diamondz, Favorites, Friends, Photoblog, Posting, Pseudonym, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments, Stumbling

My mom just started using StumbleUpon. When I visit her page though, it’s a blank page that has a message from SU suggesting I ask her to install the toolbar. She has the toolbar, I know, I installed it for her. She just isn’t sure what post.
When I started using SU, one of my first [...]

Okay, But Where Do I Start?

19 October, 2007 (19:13) | Beginner, Favorites, New profile, Photoblog, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments, Stumbling, Toolbar

Dear Friends,
I have an apology to make. I’ve been giving you hints and tips for using StumbleUpon and never thought that maybe you don’t have StumbleUpon installed yet. So, first things first, run, don’t walk, to StumbleUpon, sign up, and download the toolbar. (Think I could throw more cliches into that sentence without it sounding [...]

Getting Started with StumbleUpon – Using the Toolbar (transcript)

10 October, 2007 (19:06) | Beginner, Comments, Favorites, Navagation, Pseudonym, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments, Stumbling, Toolbar, Toolbar Options, Video

This is the transcript of the video on using the StumbleUpon toolbar.

Pseudonym, a friend on StumbleUpon, once told me: “Coming to SU was *definitely* the best move I ever made in my life…the experience has given me ever more confidence in myself, in what is possible, in what is available, happening, knowable, fascinating, and just [...]
