The Aftermath - Studying the Results of StumbleUpon’s Buzz Effect

29 November, 2007 (21:57) | Buzz, Buzz Effect, Favorites, Recent reviews, Research, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments, Top Stumbler

Its fun posting something on SU and having it make the Buzz, StumbleUpon’s listing of the hottest posts in the most popular topics.

This was the first time I’d ever had a post from here get buzzed, and watching the buzz effect behind the scenes (through a stat reader) is nothing short of addicting.

Five Reasons Why You Might Not Want to be a Top Stumbler

Thanks to a friend who noticed I was getting too caught up in being at the top of the list, and called me on it, I seriously cut back on my SU activity for a while, and when I came back to StumbleUpon, I noticed I was having fun with it again, instead of stressing about always finding good articles to post.

So, here are my top 5 reasons you might not want to push to be Top Stumbler:

The Adsense Dilemma

26 October, 2007 (18:11) | Advertising, Firefox, Research, Revenue blogging, SU, Stumble Upon, StumbleUpon, StumbleUpon Comments

I’ve been using Adblock for so long that I don’t even think about it anymore. In fact, the only reason I’m talking about it now is that I’ve been studying the various types of web ads for a project I’m working on. So, I started talking to some friends who use Adsense and various other types of insta-ads on their sites.

While I was talking to them, I discovered something. Several were getting StumbleUpon traffic, but very little of the traffic was turning into sales. It wasn’t until one friend asked me to look at his site and tell me what I thought, that I started to realize what the problem was. I couldn’t see an ad on the whole site. Not one. Checking back over the other sites, I noticed the same “problem.” No ads.
