About 2 1/2 years ago, I was checking out all the apps for Firefox like I do occasionally and came across a program called StumbleUpon. I decided to try it, and instantly fell in love with it. I’m surprised I didn’t wear my stumble button out, as much as I used it.

I also loved visiting all the other stumblers pages. I was fascinated by all the information available simply by visiting a page or clicking a button. There was only one thing that really bothered me about SU, and that was that unlike a blog, you couldn’t leave a comment about someone’s page. You could write a review of the person or the whole site, but you couldn’t leave a message after an individual post.

So I came up with a hack that would allow you to add comments after each post. It’s a simple hack, and not all that technical, but it works, and if you use it, you’ll get a notification anytime someone leaves a comment. This blog was created originally as a storage place for comments, and as a place for me to answer “how to” questions from friends. Thus, when I’m writing on here, I often refer to my readers as friends, since I think of you as such, regardless of whether we’re friends on SU or not. I hope you don’t mind. :)

Writing the instructions to my hack seemed to open a door on my stumbling experience. I started meeting more people, and making a lot of friends.

Over the past couple years, my stumble experience has been incredible. For a while I was a Top Stumbler, which doesn’t really mean much except having your name on another list. I didn’t really notice an increase in traffic or more posts. I’ve also watched my page rank go up and down, most likely as a result of cutting back somewhat on the number of posts I’d make each day. I didn’t really notice an increase from that either, possibly because the page numbers you’re given on SU are only for StumbleUpon members who are signed in (if a friend visits your page while they’re on a computer that doesn’t have StumbleUpon on it, you won’t see that they visited).

Recently, I’ve noticed that a lot of blogging sites are talking about StumbleUpon as a great way to bring in traffic, so there has been a large influx of new Stumblers who are just learning how to stumble. So I created the beginner section of this blog to help those who are just learning. Over time I hope to fill this section with everything that a beginning Stumbler would need to know in order to have a fun and successful stumbling experience.
